Lesson of the Day

What I learned at work today-

Don't ride motorcycles. You will die.

Cows

I love chicken and fish. Cows not so much.
But I want to let everyone
know I had my first real steak yesterday night!
I've never been to Texas Roadhouse so Jake and I decided to go since
it's right across the street from our house.
(plus we wanted to see Alisha and she was working. It was fun to talk to you Lish!
Sorry it wasn't the best night. We love you lots!)
Anyway, I have never in my whole life ordered a steak at a restaurant.
I'm always up for trying new things, and its nothing like skydiving,
nonetheless I still felt slightly adventurous.
Short story long...I ordered a steak and almost ate the whole thing.
I'm not gonna lie it was pretty freakin delicious!
I suppose I should give cows a little more credit.
Don't worry I'm not totally converted.
I won't be ordering any hamburgers anytime soon.

My bridals were taken at Memory Grove Park in SLC.
Mom and Riley came along to help and we had a good time!
Mom made sure I looked pretty and everything was
where it was supposed to be and Riley came to make me smile and laugh :)
Both did an excellent job!

I've been meaning to blog but needless to say I've been computer-less for a couple weeks now. Its not that big of a deal except for the fact that I had addresses saved for wedding invites and all the pictures we needed for the wedding on my sad sad laptop. How convenient. Luckily some computer nerds were able to save all the crap on my computer and transfer it to our new one. Don't worry I have 16 GB of pictures...It took 2 hours just to transfer pictures off my laptop. What can I say, I love photography. The computer nerds pretty much thought I was a photography nerd. Anywho, we now have a nice computer and Internet at our house now. I can continue blogging or blabbing, whatever you want to call it :)

I'm EXCITED because now I can blog about my BIRTHDAY! We celebrated my birthday on Labor day, two days before my birthday, because we both had a day off from school and work.

JAKE spoiled me! I LOVE HIM! It was all a surprise, which Jake does best ;)

FIRST, I got to sleep in which is a birthday present in and of itself! I thought Jake got to sleep in to but later that day he confessed that he went to bed at 3AM the night before and only got a few hours of sleep. He was so busy planning my birthday and excited to surprise me :) After I woke up I called my love and he told me to get ready and bring two more outfits. Something comfy and something fancy. This intrigued me but I still didn't get any clues as to what we were doing that day.

SECOND, I headed down to our condo in bountiful for a fun-filled day. I had to call when I got there and wait a few minutes before I could go inside. When I finally got to go inside, I got a huge hug and kiss, balloons all over the floor, curly ribbon hanging from the ceiling and birthday banners up everywhere! I was way surprised! Wait there's more...there were beautiful red roses and a card waiting for me on the table. They were the coolest looking roses I'd ever seen they were stripped!

THIRD, Jake gave me a cooking magazine and he bought us both a plain apron and tons of sharpies. We decorated our aprons all hot like so we could wear them while we cooked dinner. It was way fun and luckily I was feeling creative that day because some days I lack in that department. I just have to let you all know that my almost husband is sooo cute. He was going to have me go home that evening so he could make dinner for me, but he decided it would be much more enjoyable to make it together. It really was! I love cooking! Especially with my hubby :) He had picked out all the recipes we were going to make for dinner and they were perfect! Everything I loved!

FOURTH, we headed to redbox to get a free dvd. We finally decided on Step Up 2. Not something I would have chosen but they have some sweet awesome dance moves in that movie. Jake loved it because he's always wanted to learn how to break dance and the whold movie was about street dancing. We always love movie time and cuddling :)

FIFTH, we set out to Walmart to get everything for dinner. I'm weird but I love going grocery shopping with Jake he is very entertaining. One of the recipes called for a couple crazy spices so we had to shop around for those. We headed home and started making our delicious dinner. We had herbs de provence chicken, a onion and tomato salad with balsamic vinegar dressing, and my famous loaded potatoes (Applebee's has nothing on me!) We both changed into our fancy clothes to eat dinner it was so romantical. We even had martinelli in fancy glasses! I loved it!

LAST OF ALL , both of us decided it would be fun to stay in our fancy clothes and we went down to the Gateway to see a movie. It was fun walking around all pretty like I don't get to do it much :) Well Jake fell asleep just as the movie was getting good but thats okay I still love him! Its either him or I that fall asleep during movies, never at the same time. Weird how we do that.

The whole day was AMAZING! Thanks Jake for making my birthday such a special one! I love that you take so much time to plan fun things! You take such good care of me! I can't wait til October 11th! 19 DAYS! I LOVE YOU!

As for the rest of my birthday week my family spoiled me! I got to go to California Pizza Kitchen with my Dad, Riley and Mary, and Jake. I got my favorite BBQ chicken pizza and after we stopped by the rocky mountain chocolate factory to get my favorite caramel apples. Saturday my Mom, Riley, and I headed down to the farmers market in Salt Lake. I loved it! Its fun to walk around and Mom bought me delicious peaches. Later that day Mom and I got Maddocks chicken and took it to the duck park and had a cute little picnic. It was relaxing and a good time to spend some alone time just Mom and Me :) It was such a fun birthday! Thanks everyone for the fabulous birthday week!

SHOE SHOPPING SUCKS

So I called my dress lady last Monday slightly stressed because I was getting my bridals taken the next day and had not seen the final alterations on my dress. I told her I could take work off early, try it all on and get everything worked out. Before hanging up she said, "but we have one slight problem..." This didn't help my stress level any. She continued to explain that my veil was somewhere in Texas and she couldn't get a hold of the company that was shipping my shoes. I guess it had something to do with the hurricanes down south. Everyone had evacuated so she couldn't get a hold of store owners. Never thought hurricanes would affect me in any way but I was sorely mistaken. I'm just glad it's not my dress that's missing somewhere in route. I now had to use my wicked problem solving skills. I could borrow a veil and shoes...but my dress is ivory and everyone I knew had white. That pretty much ended the problem solving fun. I knew I was going to have to buy new shoes, and hopefully they had an ivory veil at the store I could use. I went to try on my dress which went very well, the dress lady made a makeshift veil dyed ivory and I was left running around trying to find shoes for the next day. I was already feeling crappy that day I just wanted to go home and sleep but I had to go shoe shopping instead. For those of you that know me well, shoe shopping is very close to bottom on my list of favorite things to do...I was stoked. After looking at 6 different stores I nearly gave up. I was looking for 3 inch flip flops in ivory or even brown at this point. Every store owner kept reminding me that it is not summer anymore and flip flops are a summer shoe, which I was well aware of. I bagged the flip flop idea and broadened the search to tall shoes so I wouldn't have to alter any length off my dress. I pretty much gave up and decided to use my friends white flip flops she lent me, but I was drawn to one last store. Journeys out of all places...I walked in there pretty much knowing I wouldn't find anything unless I resorted to skater shoes or flats. Miraculously I found some tall strappy heel/wedges (I don't know shoe terminology) that worked and they were only 20 bucks. So I hurry and bought them and ran home to de-stress from my less then stellar shoe shopping experience. And thats why shoe shopping sucks.

SUMMER FUN

I've posted a link to some pictures we took over the summer. Not all but some.

For the 4th of July weekend we went camping with my mom up Little Cottonwood Canyon at Tanners Flat. We saw Riley one night but he had to work the rest of the time. Jake came up after work and had to get up and go back to work again. I enjoyed spending some quality time with my mom! We also ventured down to Sugarhouse park to watch 4th of July fireworks :)

Check out our pictures

In August, we headed up to Colorado for another camp out in Estes Park. Jake's family has a reunion every year. I finally got to meet his oldest brother Mike and his family that live in Kansas. It was fun to have the whole family together.

We also got the chance to see rednecks at their finest. We went to a demolition derby with Grandma and Grandpa Read in Heber. It's been awhile since I've been to one but they are a riot. Those people are somethin else...Oh and we missed Jake dearly he had to work

Getting Settled

I realize I have not blogged for over a month. I tell myself I have so much time to, but it seems lately it's either update my blog or sleep and I opt for the second. I keep getting told to update my blog. I won't name names but Aunt Ann this is for you :) Love ya! Hope I can provide you with a little entertainment for a least a few minutes.

Jake and I have been moving stuff into our new condo, cleaning, and fixing little things as they come to our attention. Jake and his Dad spent a day replacing all the light switches and outlets. They look so much better! Thanks guys for all your hard work! I just have to add...as we are getting more comfortable in our new little house we have realized that the family that lived there before did not know how to paint and struggled with concepts of cleaning as well. To avoid a tangent, I will just say I have spent a considerable amount of time repainting and hours upon hours just scrubbing the grout and tile. What we thought was a dark gray grout is actually a light tan ish sand color. Weird how dirt can do that! I didn't think I was a "clean freak" but compared to our predecessors I definitely feel the part.

Countdown

We are closing on our condo on August 4th! We are so excited! I seems like it can't come soon enough!

The Joys of Working in the Medical Field...

Awesome job...not so awesome when I get called in. Don't get me wrong I am willing and happy to take call. I'm fine when they call me in for a couple hours to help out, but last night was a different story. They called me in saying the person who was supposed to work grave yard was apparently on vacation and he didn't get anyone to cover for him. Since I was the only one on call I got "called in" to work this person's shift. I'm not cool with that. If you go out of town get your shift covered don't just rely in the on call person to take over. So, needless to say my whole sleep pattern is totally thrown off and will continue as such, seeing as how this same individual is scheduled to work to night...and you guessed it! I'm on call. I love people

YAY!!!

Jake and I found a condo that we absolutely loved in Bountiful! We looked at the condo Thursday night and made an offer Saturday morning. The sellers had until 6PM Monday to accept or counter offer. We received a much awaited phone call at 4PM on Monday saying they accepted our offer!!! WE ARE SO EXCITED!!! We are so blessed to have everything work out so smoothly. The inspection will be done on Weds. and the appraisal soon after. We are hoping those two things work out and Jake can move in Aug. 14th at the latest but probably sooner :) Just as a side note I've been wanting to post our pictures from the 4th of July weekend but I still haven't finished the slide show. I'm somewhat of a slacker...you'll be seeing it shortly though

CONDO SHOPPING

Jake and I have started looking at condos! We are having so much fun looking for a place to live together! We are looking for a 2 bedroom condo to buy in salt lake, or bountiful ish. We like salt lake because we will be close to work but its also more expensive. My friend Tania's mom is a real estate agent and is helping us find a place! We love working with her and appreciate her helping us out.

JACOB IS UP TO.......

Well of course i'm up to no good, Lol. I've been running around trying to juggle quite a number of things. I wake up at 4:30 and workout with my mother, I haft to say, it's not every day you see a woman my mothers age working on her bench press, ha ha. Then Mon, Tues, Wed, I go to school from 7:40 to 2:30 at the DATC in Kaysville. I'm in a Surgical Tech class, I like it a lot!!! On Mondays and Wednesdays I go down to SLC to give plasma and ride home with Bre after she is done with her classes. I work every Thur and Fri and switch back and forth on Saturdays and Sundays. So i'm working 3 12's like my mother. In my spare time I do laundry, try to help plan our wedding, try to spend time with my family, and study. I'm very happy with how things are going, I don't think i would be able to be this busy with out the love and support of my best-friend, BRE! and my mother!! Who makes my lunches everyday for me!!!

Where did June go?

Wow June is gone and I only had one post on my blog! I can really track how fast time flies now by how much I write (or don't write in this case.) This will at least make two now and I will put one up tomorrow too, to make it even with May. Plus I loathe even numbers so three posts will be perfect for June! I promise I will do better in months to come. I sorta forget I have a blog at times so unfortunately it gets neglected. Jake says he wants to post more too so it will be tons of fun! Well as far as wedding updates, Jake thinks we have the wedding planned...silly boy I love him. We went over what we have done, and what we still have to do just to clarify we still have a bit more to plan before the big day.

What we have done

  • Jake bought my engagement ring
  • Apt. to be sealed in Bountiful Temple
  • Eldredge Manor in Bountiful reserved for luncheon
  • Chantilly Mansion in Layton reserved for reception
  • Ordered my dress
  • Bought Jake's suit, shoes, belt, vest, tie
  • Booked videographer/photographer
  • Bought bridesmaids outfits
  • Bought shirts and ties for the guys in our family

What we have left to do

  • More then what we have done :)

Mom suggested that we finish the rest of the wedding planning in two weeks to get it all over with. Good idea mom...we think a lot alike! Yesterday Jake planned our day out and the only thing on the agenda was to do nothing. We relaxed, watched movies, ate too much junk food, laughed, and ended the day stargazing at the park It was a good break from planning and homework and all that fun stuff. Jake works every other Saturday so the days he has off I already have a long list of things we need to get done. It was refreshing to get a break but with only two weeks, we better get back to planning!

UPDATE

Hey Aunt Ann! My mom told me I need to update my blog. She said you check it everyday and are sorely disappointed because I haven't written anything new:) I think you're the only one that looks at it more then me! This means you get your own personalized message haha Well as for the update, Jake and I are keeping busy. We are both working at the moment. He is working a 16 hour shift and I am going home in a hour ish to study for my Chemistry test. We were supposed to carpool today but I drove instead of riding the frontrunner. It's nice we work at the same place and it saves on gas when we do get a chance to ride together. I think you need to get a blog so I can look at it everyday! It's tons of fun. Nobody has sent me anything for the read family blog yet. If you want to email me something I'll be more then happy to post it! Love you lots!

Monday, May 19, 2008

Jake and I have been giving plasma to earn some extra cash for our wedding. There's a really nice donation center we go to up by the university hopital. We go twice a week and make 65 bucks each! Pretty good way to save up for the wedding! Thats 520 a month. I'm just hoping my vein won't collapse between now and October 11th...it's made it 3 years already. Plus we get to spend quality time together! There's nothing like sitting next to the one you love with 16 gauge needles in your arm, talking about what you're going to do that week :)

OUR ENGAGEMENT

I'm so very excited! Jake proposed on Monday April 28th! We are getting married in the Bountiful temple on Saturday October 11th, 2008! That Monday was a crazy day for me because I had my anatomy final the next day and I was trying to get all my studying in before 5 that evening. I was a little stressed and irritated to say the least from studying all day and was relieved when Jake showed up to pick me up. I feel kinda bad I was uptight I think I made Jake a little nervous because he wanted me to be happy and he wanted the whole night to work out perfectly as planned. On the way to his house, I asked Jake if we were in trouble because we had never gone to dinner with his parents :) he assured me that we weren't in trouble at least not to his knowledge haha So we got to Jake's house and went upstairs to hang out. By then I had calmed down and was excited just to relax and forget about school for awhile. Jake already explained the happenings of his proposal so I won't add the details but I do have to say I was very surprised! I told Jake that I didn't care how he proposed it just had to be a surprise. He says I'm really hard to surprise because I ask too many questions...sorry :) He did really well though. First of all I didn't think he was proposing, because the ring he gave me we had just found a week before. He called and told me we couldn't get that one for awhile because he had to save up some money. That punk already had the ring when he told me that haha but he had to go to extreme measures to keep this a secret. He also videotaped the whole thing which would have been suspicious, but I didn't think anything of it because him and his friend Gary have been vidoetaping everything lately. My favorite is when he got down on his knee and said, "will you marry me?" I love how simple it was. We're not the flowery word kinda couple and it was perfect. Of course I said I'd love to and everyone asks if I cried but I didn't. I was just so happy and excited all we could do was smile and kiss and smile some more :) His parents took us to Mimi's Cafe for dinner which was delicious. We had a wonderful time! Then we went to visit my mom she had just gotten home from the airport. It was a good surprise to come home too! We went to see my dad and tell him the good news. I wish I could have visited everyone I knew, I was so excited to tell people that we were getting married! Of course both of our phones died in the middle of us telling our family and friends about our engagement...bad timing. All in all it was an amazing day! To say the least I had a hard time sleeping that night and didn't do so hot on my final the next day but it was so worth it! Thanks love for the perfect day! I can't wait to spend more with you! I love you Jake!

Jake wrote this at work when he had some free time. He wrote a lot more then I thought he would! I love it! Thanks babe! I love you!

Our Engagment: April 28 2008, Breanne was at work and i really wanted to get her ring. After school i went to Layton and picked up Gary, we then went to the Shane Co. and i purchased the ring. It had to be resized so i wasn't able to walk away with it. Previously that week i told Bre, we wouldn't be able to get the ring she wanted due to our finances. She was sad but understood, so she thought we would be continuing our search for her ring. It was hard not being honest with her but worth it in the end, she was very sad about being away from me and about the ring situation. I had to lie to her when she asked where i was, i wanted to stop by and see her at work but knew i couldn't leave a trail that i was anywhere near Salt Lake that week. Our parents were both gone and we had a wonderful weekend togther. My parents would be coming home Monday evening around 5 and her mother would be coming home later that evening as well around 9. I wanted to make our last few hours of the day special but didn't know how. I pulled into the school parking lot, I was about 20 minutes early, i sat and thought about what I could do for us........I decided I didn't have but 1 absence from class so i could spare one more. I wanted to do a surprise for Bre. As I headed home I decided that that evening would be perfect to propose! I ran home to think! I came up the evening in my mind perfectly. I went to some stores to get some things togther, then took off to The Shane Co. I Got It!! I was so excited. To get the ring it took but 10 minutes! I didn't know what to do with the rest of the day. It was only 10:30 and Bre didn't think i would be available till around 5. I gave plasma then went to see Riley at work in Bountiful, I went to one more store then went home and wrapped the gifts, and waited. In the mean time I set everything up. I arranged an evening at a resturant with Bre and my parents. I told Bre my parents wanted to take us out just because. She wanted to know why, she thought they were going to "talk to us" I tried to reasure her that we were just going out, but if that was the case we would face them together. I went to Bre's and picked her up around 5:30. We went to my house to meet my parents, my mom "wasn't ready" well that's what I told Bre. I told my mother we would be upstairs in the family room waiting for them. We went upstairs and to Bre's surprise I had a blanket laid out and a suit case off to the side. She turned to me with a smile and asked "Jacob? What is this for?" I replied "I wanted to end this wonderful weekend together on one more good note." We sat down and I had her close her eyes, I jumped up and started the video camera. I sat back down and opened the suit case and pulled out a small present. I put it in her hand and had her unwrap it. It was a candle, I gave her a candle because she always smells so good! Also the scent reminded me of her. I had her close her eyes again and I pulled out another present. She again opened her eyes and unwrapped it. It was matching T-shirts of a band called "Saves The Day" one for her and one for me. We both really like some of there songs. Again I had her close her eyes and gave her another present, it was a little cute cuddly bed pillow, it reminded me of Bre because she is cute and cuddly! Again another present, it was a white T-shirt with a cool guitar on it, Bre likes to play the guitar. Then one more, it was a wind breaker jacket, I told her I wanted het to try it, she stood up and did a cute little pose and I told her to turn around so I could see it from the back. She turned back to face me and I said "See how the pockets feel" she put her hands in the pockets and as soon as her eyes lit up I got on my knee and asked her if she would marry me. Of course her reply was "I would love to!"
